The first  member of the fantasy sports collection is the fantasy baseball. Fantasy baseball is a type of game in which people from all parts of the globe are able to manage the real-life professional baseball players of the Major League Baseball or MLB. Some of the professional MLB players are Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Magglio Ordonez, Matt Holliday, Carl Crawford, and Luis Gonzales. Unlike in other sporting games, the statistics and rankings of the players in fantasy baseball are based on the current records of real MLB baseball players. Some of the websites which offer their own versions of fantasy baseball include ESPN, Sporting news, MLB, and even Yahoo!.

There are two basic types of fantasy baseball: the rotisserie and the head-to-head. The rotisserie is credited as the original type of fantasy baseball. In this type of game, every team competes in a series of categories in which the eventual winner is the one with the most impressive baseball statistics. The different statistics used in rotisserie fantasy baseball are the team batting average, the team earned run average, the team whip, the total home runs, the total stolen bases, the total runs batted in, the total saves, and the total wins. The head-to-head leagues, on the other hand, are characterized by a team-to-team competition that involves team rankings based on the record of wins and losses. The eventual winner in a head-to-head game is the team with the highest winning percentage.

Benefits

* The players are allowed to keep track of their team. In fantasy baseball, the players are given the chance to choose the members and keep track of the line-up of their respective teams on a daily basis. They are able to monitor the current game statistics, watch the team draft, determine league player rankings, and read the baseball news. They are also capable of adding up and giving up different baseball players from their team. Negotiations regarding the trading of team members are also permitted in the game.

* The game is widely distributed in the world. Baseball fans with very limited friends are now given the chance to play the game with other players from across the globe. Publicly accessed fantasy baseball sites offer interactions and games for all baseball enthusiasts, regardless of their geographical location. Fans of the game are able to interact with each other through a draft, share strategic ideas, play in different leagues, trade new players, meet fellow baseball lovers, and talk about the latest baseball news.

* The game is suitable for everyone. The problem with the real-life sport of baseball is that one has to meet certain physical requirements and skill expectations in order to join. In fantasy baseball, a lot of people are able to have a taste of the sweet glory that was once experienced only by professional athletes. Everybody can play the game.

* The players are free from sport injury. Unlike the real-life heroes of the MLB, players are not vulnerable to any form of physical injury. In fantasy baseball, there are no falls, no cuts, no wounds, no bruises, no torn ligaments, no dislocated bones, no broken joints, and no sweat.
